Minibeast Hunt
D.E.A.R in the Sun
(Drop Everything And Read)
Space
During the month of April we had great fun learning fascinating facts about Space. We learned about the solar system, astronauts and the first moon landing. We watched a video of the first moon landing in 1969 and heard about Neil Armstrong and the rest of the Apollo 11 crew members. We received passports from our space station and made many trips to the moon in our own space rocket. We learned about the stars, the moon and the planets. We now know that the sun is actually a giant star. The boys and girls brought in lots of books about space for us to read and look at.
Easter Ceilí Dance and Easter Hunt
We had great fun jiving and waltzing in our classroom to some country music on the day of our Easter holidays. We also had an Easter hunt around our school. The Easter Bunny hid lots of sweets and eggs but I think we managed to find them all! We had no trouble eating them either!!
On the Farm
During the month of February the children were learning all about the Farm in Aistear. We talked about the different types of animals that might live on a farm. We discussed the different types of machinery used on a farm and how machinery and other things have changed from the past. We made scarecrows, planted seeds, went fishing in our own pond and built our own farms.
The Three Little Pigs
Fun at the Restaurant
Junior and Senior infants learned how to set a table properly, give and receive orders and good restaurant manners. We had some fantastic chef’s, bakers, waiters, waitresses and very mannerly customers. We even washed up after our very busy days in the restaurant.
At the Post Office
For the month of December we got ourselves ready for Christmas by learning all about the post office. We learned that you can find applications for a TV license, dog licenses and passports in the post office. We learned that you must make sure you write an address on the front of your envelope and put a stamp on it. We watched a fun video to find out more about the journey of a letter/parcel after we post it. The children bought stamps, envelopes, parcel boxes, ribbons and fancy paper in our post office. They wrote their own letters and posted them in our own class post box. They even wrapped parcels in nice Christmas wrapping paper as presents for their friends and family members.
